AR Box 200, Carthage Residential Building Projects Files, 1890—1913

Although the correspondence, construction receipts and invoices contained in this record group appeared insignificant at first glance, once studied and analyzed, what had been received was a group of records documenting building projects for over 65 properties in Carthage from 1890 to 1913 that had been serviced through the savings and loan associations but administered by the business of E S Williams (also a board member of both associations).

Not always documented by address, further research should identify addresses for almost all of these projects based on legal descriptions or Sanborn maps. One of the most complete files is the Ernest B Jacobs House at 601 S Howard, which was constructed in 1893 and is still standing today.

In addition to the building project files, there are some files in AR Box 200 with papers regarding both Jasper County and Marion Building loan associations including stockholder election results, stockholder payments and miscellaneous banking items. These records were retained with the building project files as found.

Files in this record group are searchable in "Past Perfect" software by owner's name, contractor or builder's name, all construction suppliers (i.e. lumberyards, hardware stores by specific company/store name) as well as day laborers or construction workers. Only homeowner names have been included in this general subject list below with other general subjects and names.
