Also includes limited information on Elizabeth J. (Betty) Ketcham who was an employee of the U S State Department (Information Services). She graduated Carthage High School in 1931. Among the local (Carthage, MO) items: Ozark Wesleyan College financial/endowment papers, Drake Hotel stock documents, some correspondence and papers of Dr Cassius M Ketcham and Dr Elizabeth Lawson Hall Ketcham, estate administration papers of Marsh Coates of Clinton but which contain invoices from Carthage businesses, attorney B H Esterly, and Dr C M Ketcham, administrator, and property papers of the Doctors Ketcham for Carthage. A photograph, two books and newspaper clippings on Dr Elizabeth Hall Ketcham's friend Esther Pratt who was a long-time English teacher at Carthage High School, are included in the collection, too. There are some miscellaneous artifacts in this grouping (ie. Dr Hall's surgical scissors, St Mary's Guild of Grace Episcopal Church Cook Book, Jasper County Courthouse postcards) that were not processed as part of the MHRAB cycle 3 archival project but which will be processed into the collections of the Powers Museum during 2005-06 as time permits. At this date, only loose family photographs of Carthage residents and/or of the principal family members have been accessioned, but three early (c 1860-1880) photograph albums with photos from non-Carthage locations have been accessioned as albums (NOT by individual photographs) at this time. Harwood Hall family photographs have NOT be accessioned and are found in AR Box 1995.01, folder # 1.
Contact has been made with appropriate historical societies/museums regarding some of the materials including: Stockton/Cedar County Historical Society, Stockton MO; Salem/Salem County Historical Society, Salem NJ; Chemawa School, Chemawa OR; Liberty Memorial, Kansas City MO The resources of the Jasper County Archives will also be searched for information (ie. Marvin VanGilder Collection and the Carthage Press Clipping Files) on the Halls in particular, as Dr Elizabeth Hall was often written up in the paper for her practice begun in 1893. Although not the first female doctor in Carthage, she did practice the longest, retiring around 1933. Also, she was active in the Rhoda Fairchild Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (consult archival collection of the Carthage DAR for her activities) and Dr Ketcham's certificate upon joining the local chapter is included in the Hall-Ketcham Collection holdings.
