Howard-Hulme-Dittrich Shoe Company General Ledger, 19211926 This partially used ledger book contains the financial entries for the above shoe company that later became Goodhealth Shoe Company in a transfer of assets. The Bank of Carthage was involved in the latter and researchers should refer to the specific record group associated with the Goodhealth Company. The ledger is covered in olive green corduroy fabric and has a leather label with the company embossed in gold. Information includes assets, liabilities, income, expenses (in alphabetical order & tabbed) and customer accounts (in alphabetical order & in tabels). Most information is for the years 19211922 but there are entries for 1923, and 1926. The latter year seems to be when the assets were sold off and those names who bought furniture, equipment and other assets are given in the subject listing below. Information about specific shoe products purchased
by customers is not given. Most entries appear to be clothing or shoe
stores in the Midwest and in eastern and southern states. A future volunteer
project might consider the indexing of customer names by state especially
if a special Carthage shoe industry history project was pursued in the
future. Indexing was not done as part of the MHRAB grant project as this
ledger was found in collection storage separated from other Bank of Carthage
items. Western Historical Manuscript Collection in Rolla
has other Goodhealth Shoe Company records held by the Powers Museum microfilmed
in their collection. WHMC declined to microfilm this ledger (since it
was not known that a customer listing was included in the financial ledger)
when copying other items from the Bank of Carthage collection in 200001
before funding for microfilming was cut and the project was severely downsized.
Basic Howard-Hulme-Dittrich and Goodhealth information is found in the
Powers Museum's Carthage Vertical Files. Sample listings from "Customer"
