Letter written in reply to Marian Wright Powers' letter to her distant
cousin Harold Bell Wright. The purpose of Mrs. Powers' letter was to invite
Mr. & Mrs. Wright to stay at the Powers home should they ever be coming
to Southwest Missouri. This action was prompted by a recent trip to Branson,
Missouri, which had brought him to mind along with his book Shepherd
of the Hills.

Dear Mrs. Everett:
It was nice to have your charming letter, and Mrs. Wright joins
me in thanking you for your generous invitation. I have been thinking
for the past few years how much I would like to make a pilgrimage back
to the Ozarks to meet some of the old friends who were so dear to me
in past days but each year seems
to bring a full program of obligations of various sorts to keep me from
doing the things I would somuch like to do. Every fall I think of the
Ozarks and how beautiful they are after the first frost.
I do not see any possibility of getting East this fall. We have,
for the past year and a half, been establishing a little farm home here
in Southern California. We were very fond of Arizona and enjoyed our
home there but considering the under-tainty of these times it seemed
best for us to retire from active work and we are old we can have our
own garden vegetables and fruits and that sort of thing.
Yes, I remember your father very well - that is I remember my correspondence
with him and the genealogy he compiled. You may be very thatshould we
go East at any time we shall be pleased to see you.
With every good wish, I am
Sincerely
HBW X Harold Bell Wright [signature]
