Arcadia Publishing's Carthage Picture Book The Powers Museum announces the sale of Arcadia Publishing's Carthage book from its Historic Images of America Series. The soft-cover book features 230 historic images of Carthage gathered from the Powers Museum collections as well as a few images borrowed from the community.
Chapters in the book include the courthouse square, schools, churches, leisure activities, industries and other subjects. Most images in the book predate 1940. The earliest photograph used was a carte-de-viste of George Rader, first merchant to arrive in Carthage after the Civil War. Other early views include stereograph images of the square and Carthage's first library from the 1870s.
